Peerless CRP Turbidimetric Reagent is a professional in-vitro diagnostic reagent for the quantitative determination of C-Reactive Protein (CRP) in serum using a latex turbidimetric method.
This listing is for the 1 × 50 mL pack.
The supplied method uses latex particles coated with anti-CRP antibodies. When these particles react with CRP present in the specimen, agglutination occurs. The degree of agglutination is proportional to the CRP concentration and is measured turbidimetrically.
Professional laboratory use only. This product should be used by trained laboratory personnel on compatible validated photometric / chemistry analyser systems according to the current Peerless IFU and laboratory SOP.
The reagent uses latex particles coated with anti-CRP antibodies.
When a serum sample containing C-Reactive Protein is mixed with the latex reagent, antigen-antibody agglutination occurs. The resulting increase in turbidity is proportional to the CRP concentration in the specimen and is measured photometrically.
| R1 – Diluent | Tris buffer, 20 mmol/L, pH 8.2 |
| R2 – Latex | Latex particles coated with goat anti-human CRP, pH 7.3 |
| CAL – Calibrator | Human serum; CRP concentration stated on the vial label and traceable to Certified Reference Material BCR 470 (IRMM) |
The IFU states that R1, R2 and calibrator are ready to use. R2 should be gently shaken / swirled before use.
Important: the supplied IFU contains an apparent inconsistency between its stated working-reagent mixing ratio and the numerical example. Laboratories should follow the current manufacturer application sheet / lot-specific IFU or confirm the preparation directly with Peerless before routine use rather than resolving this discrepancy by assumption.
Prewarm the working reagent and photometer / cuvette holder to 37°C.
| Instrument Zero | Distilled water |
| Wavelength | 540 nm |
| Sample / Calibrator | 10 µL |
| Working Reagent | 1.0 mL |
| First Reading | Immediately after sample addition – A1 |
| Second Reading | After 2 minutes – A2 |
The manufacturer IFU calculates CRP concentration using the change in absorbance of the sample relative to the calibrator:
CRP (mg/L) = [(A2 − A1) Sample ÷ (A2 − A1) Calibrator] × Calibrator Concentration
The calibrator concentration should be taken from the value stated on the supplied calibrator vial.

| Linearity Limit | Up to 150 mg/L under the described assay conditions |
| Reporting Unit | mg/L |
Specimen: Fresh serum.
According to the IFU:
Store the reagents tightly closed at 2–8°C and prevent contamination during use.
According to the IFU:
| Linearity | Up to 150 mg/L under the described assay conditions |
| Above Linearity | IFU instructs samples above the range to be diluted 1/5 in 9 g/L NaCl and retested |
| Detection Limit | Values below 1 mg/L are stated to give non-reproducible results |
| Analytical Sensitivity | 2.9 mA / mg CRP/L |
| Prozone Effect | Up to 250 mg/L |
The IFU also reports that results did not show systematic differences when compared with commercial reagents of similar characteristics; detailed comparison data are available from the manufacturer on request.
Under the conditions stated in the Peerless IFU, the following concentrations are reported not to interfere:
Other substances may interfere. Laboratories should follow the complete current IFU and their internal interference-investigation policy when unexpected results occur.
Control sera should be used to monitor the performance of both manual and automated assay procedures.
The Peerless IFU recommends:
Plasma Protein Control N-I – Ref. 3915010
Plasma Protein Control N-II – Ref. 3915015
Each laboratory should establish its own quality-control scheme, acceptable limits and corrective actions when controls fall outside established tolerances.
The IFU lists the following adult reference value:
Adults: Up to 5 mg/L
Each laboratory should establish or verify its own reference interval appropriate to its population, analytical system and laboratory practice.
The Peerless IFU states that this method may be used with different instruments; however, every analyser application should be validated to demonstrate that the required analytical performance characteristics are achieved.
The IFU further notes that the linearity limit can depend on the sample-to-reagent ratio and analyser being used.
Before ordering, laboratories should therefore verify:
C-Reactive Protein is an acute-phase protein that may increase following tissue injury, infection, inflammation and other pathological processes.
CRP is a non-specific laboratory marker. A result should not be used alone to establish a diagnosis or determine the cause of inflammation.
The manufacturer specifically states that clinical diagnosis should not be made from a single test result but should be based on appropriate clinical and laboratory information.
