The SD BIOLINE HIV/Syphilis Duo test is a solid phase immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of antibodies to all isotypes(IgG, IgM, and IgA) specific to HIV-1/2 and/or Treponema palladium(TP) simultaneously in human serum, plasma, or whole blood.
The SD BIOLINE HIV/Syphilis Duo combines HIV antibody screening and treponemal syphilis antibody screening in one testing device.
Although both results are produced from the same device, they represent two separate infection-screening pathways and must be interpreted independently.
A Reactive HIV screening result should not, by itself, be treated as a final HIV diagnosis.
The result should proceed through the applicable HIV diagnostic testing algorithm, together with appropriate counselling, documentation and linkage to care.
HIV Testing During Pregnancy & Antenatal Care
A Reactive syphilis component indicates detection of antibodies associated with Treponema pallidum.
Treponemal antibodies may remain detectable even after previous adequately treated syphilis. Therefore, a Reactive treponemal result does not automatically establish a newly acquired or currently active infection.
Previous testing and treatment history, clinical findings and additional testing such as RPR or VDRL may be relevant according to the applicable clinical algorithm.
