Some of the ways to prevent or lower the risk of a heart attack are:

- Quit smoking
- Eat a balanced and healthy diet
- Stay active and get plenty of exercise
- Get enough good quality sleep
- Keep diabetes under control
- Limit alcohol intake
- Maintain blood cholesterol at optimal levels
- Keep blood pressure in control
- Maintain a healthy body weight
- Avoid stress and learn how to manage it
